Creative Writing Book List

As the 21st century sallied forth, the organizers of the Zimbabwe International Fair and others collaborated to compile a list of the best books by African authors. The 30th of September 2001 marked the closing date for all nominations, following which a jury deliberated and announced a final list of "Africa's 100 Best Books" on February 18, 2002. The Columbia University Libraries web site is a good place to view this list, and learn more about the objectives, criteria and other details behind the rendering of this list.

An underlying hope for this list was that it would fuel dialogue, or at the very least encourage one to explore the listed works. This document, along with several others, hones in on these aspirational prospects to not only share the list but also open discussions that help explore the list in the hope that such scrutiny sheds further light on the significance of the works.
